November 28, HBIS Chairman Yu Yong met Ambassador of Australian to China Scott Dewar in HBIS R&D Center. They discussed to deepen cooperation in industries and jointly reduce carbon emissions and promote green & low carbon development. Director of Hebei Provincial Foreign Affair Office Wang Jianfeng, HBIS Vice President Li Yiren, Counselor Jessica Brown in Australian Embassy(Australian Ministry of Industry, Science & Technology and Resources), Counselor James Hunter in Australian Embassy (Treasury Department of Australian Embassy), Counselor Samual Nightingale in Australian Embassy (Reserve Bank of Australia), Counselor Christopher Lee (Australian Ministry of Foreign and Trade) were also attend the meeting.
Yu Yong introduced the green and low carbon development of HBIS and its cooperation with Australian mines. He said that the Chinese steel industry and the Australian mining industry support and success each other, and have promoted the development of both sides through years of stable cooperation. Already, carbon reduction has become a consensus in the globe and could bring new innovations. Chinese steel industry is steadily going green and low carbon and together with BHP, HBIS is building a low carbon supply chain along the industrial chain of steel industry. In future, besides traditional trading with Australian mines, HBIS will deepen the cooperation with low carbon efforts and develop better technologies to effectively reduce the carbon emissions and make the industry greener and more sustainable.
Ambassador Scott Dewar said the economies of China and Australia are highly complementary and interdependent, and the future development of Australian mining companies and Chinese steel producers is closely linked.
Australia attaches great importance to providing a stable supply of commodities to global partners and businesses, while making carbon emission reduction a top priority against climate change. Carbon reduction in the steel industry requires the cooperation of the entire industrial chain and supply chain, and the Australian mining industry and the Chinese steel industry need work together on the green and low-carbon road.
The world's first 1.2 million ton hydrogen metallurgy demonstration project is made by HBIS, and the creation of a green transformation demonstration area for the near-zero carbon steel industry are in line with the future development trend of the steel industry. In future, Australian Embassy will deepen the communications with HBIS and explore more opportunities to reduce carbon emissions of steel industry.
Director Wang Jianfeng said, for a long time, Australian Embassy to China has given great support to Hebei Provincial Foreign Affair Office and enhanced both friendship during the process. Next, the office will be keep good business environment and sound status, to fully committed to assist Hebei enterprises in their efforts in cooperation with Australia companies.
